For every challenge there is a solution, and in these uncertain times, social innovators are making an impact and facing COVID-19 head on. HappyTap, a portable handwashing solution supported by the TRANSFORM initiative, is one such example, having recently launched its product in Bangladesh.
Headquartered in Vietnam, HappyTap is a social enterprise that produces and distributes a portable sink so that low-income communities can wash their hands with soap, one of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus.
The market-based solution started its soft operations in 2018 and spent two years undertaking research and groundwork. This year, it started its functional business operations and has now scaled to Bangladesh, encouraging good hygiene practices and protecting communities both at home and away.
Said the CEO of HappyTap, Geoffrey Revell: “For more than a decade, HappyTap has been at the forefront of behavioural change in hygiene. We were the first company to bring an attractive and convenient portable hand washing solution to the market. Two years of intense research and design work resulted in a product that is customised specifically for the Bangladeshi consumer.”
This is one of the many projects that receives support from TRANSFORM, a joint initiative between Unilever, the UK’s Department for International Development (DFID) and EY, using the Exago open innovation software. See the complete portfolio of projects here.
